You arrive in the Addis Ababa, the Capital city of Ethiopia. We pick you from the airport and take you to the Orange Lion Guesthouse, our comfortable base in the city. If there is time we will show you around in town.

Friday 10 May 2019

We explore the city of Addis Ababa, the capital city of Ethiopia. Our Rastafari guide will show you around in and you’ll visit different museums, churches, statues, and other landmarks. We’ll take you to the best restaurants and juice bars around.

We spend another day in Addis Ababa where we explore the city further. Among other things we visit Merkato, the largest market of Africa and a former Palace of Haile Selassie. Our guides will show you around.

Sunday 12 May 2019

We leave the city and drive along the King’s Highway to the town of Shashamane, approximately 250 kilometers south of Addis Ababa. Over the years many Rastafarians have settled in this place, based on a land-grant from His Imperial Majesty. On the way we make a stop at Lake Langano, one of the few swimmable lakes in Ethiopia. We have lunch there and enjoy the natural environment. At the end of the afternoon we arrive in Shashamane, where we visit a performing artist at his house who will share his philosophy and music with us.

Monday 13 May 2019

We spend a full day in and around Shashamane. We visit different Rastafari mansions like The Nyabinghi Tabernacle, the Bobo Shanti, and the Twelve tribes of Israel. We meet the community leaders and elders and engage with them in reasonings and meditation. We have lunch at a local Rastafari restaurant, drink the best juice in town and meet different local people. In the late afternoon we organize a King Shiloh Session in the neighboring town of Hawassa. They will perform on their own Ethiopian based Sound System set. This session is organised in honor of the second All African Rastafari Gatheringthat will take place from 1-11 November in Shashamane. Dozens of Rastafari leaders from all over Africa will visit Shashamane in this week, and you will meet them if you join this trip.

Tuesday 14 May 2019

We spend another day in and around Shashamane. We interact with the community and we also visit lake Hawassa, one of the most beautiful lakes of Ethiopia. Local guides will show you around.

Wednesday 15 May 2019

We leave Shashamane early and drive eastwards to Awash National Park. It will be a long ride, but we'll cover a lot lot miles towards Harar and you will spend this night in a beautiful lodge in the middle of a National Park overlooking a waterfall. If there is time we can end the day with a plunge in natural hot springs which are found in the area.

Early in the morning there is time to explore parts of Awash National park. Then we continue the drive to Harar. The drive offers beautiful sceneries with absolutely stunning views. In Harar we check in in our hotel and when the night falls you can witness a unique phenomenon; the feeding of wild Hyenas. Local residents have been doing this for centuries, and you can join them! Harar is one of the very few places in the world where wild Hyenas and people live together and don't consider each other as enemies.

We spend a full day in Harar. A professional local guide will show us around in the ancient city center. You will visit several landmarks, museums, and the 1000 year old city wall. Our Rastafari guide will give more information and background about the history of His Majesty in this place.

You'll spend another day in Harar. In the morning and early afternoon you have free time on your own. In the late afternoon you will join us in our festival. You will witness several cultural and musical acts, among which King Shiloh Sound System from Amsterdam.

Sunday 19 May 2019

In the morning we make a trip to Ejersa Goro, the actual birthplace of His Majesty. It is a bumpy and dusty ride over the countryside. At the side, a hilltop in a small village, a small church is erected. Our Rastafari guide will give explanations and lead moments of meditation. After we have spent some time at the site and explored the surroundings, we return to Harar. From there we continue our trip to the city of Dire Dawa, the second largest city of Ethiopia.

Today we travel back to Addis Ababa. You can drive back with the car, of fly back with a domestic flight. The latter will cost you extra, but saves you a full day driving.
