Sauti za Busara: Music festival Zanzibar   - Full Itinerary


Tuesday 5 February 2019

You arrive in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania's largest city. We will pick you up from the airport and bring you to Kipepeo Beach village, a nice resort at a tropical beach where you will spend the night. If there is time we will hang out with some local Rastafarians who will show you around in this part of the city.

Wednesday 6 February 2019

We spend a full day in Dar es Salaam. We will be introduced with the local Rastafari community, and they will explain about their life in this city and their Rastafari livity. Local Rafarians will guide us around and show the city.

Thursday 7 February 2019

In the morning we will board the ferry that will take us to the island of Zanzibar, the boat trip will take about 2 hours. When we arrive on Zanzibar we will be greeted by Zanzibari rastas and our local guides. They will bring you to your accommodation: a simple but decent guesthouse in the city. In the afternoon we will explore Stone Town with our local guides, and enjoy among other things the Sauti za Busara Parade, a cultural parade through the city center which is the official opening of the festival. In the late afternoon and evening you can enjoy all kinds of musical and cultural performances throughout the city. The festival has three stages where live acts perform, and there are many fringe events like art exhibitions and workshops. Our guides and tour leaders stand by to assist you any moment.

Friday 8 February 2019

In the morning we explore Stone Town further, this time with a professional guide who will give us insight in the long, intriguing, but also horrible history of this place. Zanzibar used to be the center of the East-African slave trade. We will visit among other sites a former slave market. Around lunchtime we go to a local family's home, where we will enjoy a real local lunch. After lunch we jump in a small boat and go to 'Prison Island', a small island just off the coast of Stone Town where you can visit a sanctuary for giant tortoise. At the end of the day and the evening you can enjoy the music festival and the fringe events.

Zaterdag 9 February 2019

In the morning we go out on a spice tour in a spice forest around the city. Zanzibar is ofter called 'the Spice Island' and it used to be an international hub for spice trade. With a spice farmer we explore the different spices that are grown on this island. In the afternoon there is time to relax, and you can enjoy the full program of the Sauti za Busara music festival.

Sunday 10 February 2019 

Today you can join a full day boattrip into Menay Bay, a protected marine park south of Stone Town. You can enjoy a full day of sailing, snorkelling, relaxing, and great food. In the evening you can visit the music festival. The boat trip is not part of the standard program and not included in the price. You can also decide to go out on your own. Our guides and tour leaders are ready to assist you.

Monday 11 February

We leave Stone Town and head to the east coast of Zanzibar. This part of Zanzibar is known for its quiet paradise beaches. On the way we visit Jozani National Park, where we explore the Mangrove forest and look out for indigenous monkeys. We spend the night in the village of Jambiani where local villagers will show us around and we will eat at a local restaurant. If you like seafood, this is the best place to be!

Tuesday 12 February 2019

Early in the morning you can join us on a Dolphin trip. The south coast of Zanzibar is one of the best places of Africa to see dolphins in the wild. We go out early to try to avoid the big groups that come from stone town, we try to be on the water around sunrise. You have a good chance to see groups of Dolphins from very close, and you can even swim with them. After the dolphin trip we take time to relax, and after lunch we drive to the north of the island where most of the beach resorts are located. The tides are not so rough here, so the water is swimmable 24 hours per day. We stay in a private beach house, and we will bring Rasta chefs who will prepare meals for us.

Wednesday 13 and Thursday 14 February

We spend two full days at the beach. You can  participate in all kinds of activities, like snorkelling trips, diving, ocean fishing, etc. You can also visit the wider area (rent a bike for example), or choose to do nothing at all and just enjoy the beach and the sun. Our Rastafari chefs will make breakfast and one meal per day (lunch or dinner),  we will discuss the options with you.

Friday 15 February 2019

We return to Stone Town and from there you can end your trip. You can go back to Dar es Salaam by boat and check in at the airport, of fly straight from Zanzibar. Contact us to discuss the options.
