Harar Peace Festival
Harar is an ancient city in the East of Ethiopia and widely known as the city of peace, tolerance, and solidarity. It has been a crossroad for different cultures and religions for over a 1000 years, and over time it has developed a unique distinctive culture that transcends religious and ethnic differences. Unlike other places in the world, the multi ethnic makeup of the local people has not led to rivalries and infighting, but to the total opposite; peace and unity! Even in times of war and adversity, people have managed to stick together and unite under what they have in common, rather than what divides them. To highlight this unique and beautiful aspect of this city, we are gladly participating in an event that is meant to put Harar on the map as the African city of Peace and Tolerance!
Harar is also the place where His Imperial Majesty Haile Selassie I grew up. He was born on a hilltop in the countryside outside the city and raised inside the ancient city walls. His father was the governor of Harar and a respected general who had a decisive role in the battle against the Italians. Next to celebrating Harar as the city of Peace, we also want to highlight it as the cradle of His Majesty.
In May 2019 we are planning the first edition of what has to become an annual peace festival that consists of music and other cultural celebrations. The first international artist that is confirmed is King Shiloh Sound System from Amsterdam, and we are working on other artists as well.
We have designed unique travel programs that will allow you to travel to Ethiopia and visit Harar and be a VIP guest at the festival. Please read along for more information and contact us for questions and bookings.
